Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography uses an ultrasound probe to “visualize” a woman’s internal organs. This visualization procedure is common in the care of pregnant women as it shows information regarding the health of the mother and of the fetus, as well as the progress of the pregnancy. It may be used in early pregnancy to establish gestational age and viability of a pregnancy. Later in pregnancy, it can be used to look at fetal anatomy, placenta location & quality, as well as amniotic fluid volume. Ultrasound is also used in gynecology to evaluate a woman’s uterus and ovaries for any abnormalities. Barrington Health Care for Women offers ultrasonography at our Barrington location.

Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is the procedure of using a small camera to look at the lining of a uterus. Typically, a hysteroscopy is done to find the cause of abnormal bleeding or to see if a problem in the uterus is preventing a woman from becoming pregnant. The hysteroscope is essentially a very thin camera which is inserted into the vagina and moved through the cervix into the uterus. The physician can see the lining on a video monitor. The physicians at Barrington Health Care for Women are ready and able to perform this procedure at the Barrington location.

Tubal Sterilization – Essure®

The Essure procedure is the first and only FDA approved permanent birth control procedure to have zero pregnancies in the clinical trials. This procedure can be performed in the doctors’ office with minimal anesthesia. There are many benefits such as no incisions (so there are no unattractive scars) and quick return to normal activities. It can be performed in the doctors office. Furthermore, there are no hormones to interfere with your body, so your periods should continue as it usually would.

Tired of waiting for your husband to get a vasectomy?
Want your body to be free of birth control hormones?
Want sexual spontaneity in your relationship without the worry of an unplanned pregnancy?

Dilation & Curettage (D&C)

Dilation and Curettage – commonly referred to as a D&C, involves slightly opening a woman’s cervix (the opening to the uters) so that a thin instrument can scrape or suction away the lining of the uterus and/or take tissue samples. This procedure is commonly performed when a woman has a miscarriage or non-pregnancy related abnormal uterine bleeding. A D&C is sometimes done in conjunction with a hysteroscopy and is now considered one potential substitute to a hysterectomy. Consult your Barrington Health Care for Woman physician to discuss your health and the best available option for you. This procedure is routine and safe and can be performed in the Barrington suite location.

Endometrial Ablation

NovaSure

Freedom from heavy bleeding in just 90 seconds! NovaSure is the safe, simple procedure that’s been proven to help control heavy menstrual bleeding without any need for hormones or a hysterectomy. NovaSure can help put an end to the embarrassment and awkwardness that heavy bleeding can cause.

NovaSure is intended to reduce or eliminate future menstrual bleeding by permanently removing the lining of the uterus (endometrium) through the brief application of electrical energy. Here’s a look at how the procedure is performed:

After slightly dilating your cervix and inserting a slender wand, your doctor will extend a triangular mesh device into your uterus.
This mesh device gently expands, conforming to the dimensions of your uterine cavity.
Safe electrical energy is delivered through the mesh for approximately 90 seconds
The mesh device is retracted back into the wand and both are removed from your uterus
Most women see a significant reduction in their level of menstrual bleeding. Many women may also experience the added benefit of a significant reduction in painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea).

LEEP (Cervical Conization)

The loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP procedure, is typically performed because your annual Pap Test indicated the presence of abnormal cervical cells and a cervical biopsy confirmed this abnormality. The procedure typically takes about 30 minutes and is performed in the physicians’ office using a thin wire loop. An electrical current is passed through the wire loop to remove the affected cervical tissue.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Da_Vinci_Surgery

Da Vinci Surgery may be your best treatment option for a benign gynecologic condition. Women who have been recommended to have their uterus removed (hysterectomy), can have this surgery performed in a minimally invasive fashion.

Instead of an open surgery incision (6-8 inches) as with a traditional abdominal hysterectomy, this state-of-the-art technology allows the doctor to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings (8-12 millimeters). The da Vinci Surgical System provides the doctor with enhanced capabilities such as high-definition 3D vision and a magnified view.

This less invasive surgical procedure may also be an option for women with fibroids who want to preserve their fertility and/or uterus.

For most women, da Vinci Hysterectomy offers numerous potential benefits over traditional surgical approaches, including:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss and need for transfusion
  • Less risk of infection
  • Small incisions for minimal scarring
  • Shorter hospital stay (usually 1 day versus 3 days for open incision)
  • Quicker recovery and return to normal activities
  • Better outcomes and patient satisfaction
  • The da Vinci System has been used successfully worldwide in hundreds of thousands of procedures to date.
